A Relational Approach to Real Estate in Santa Clarita Valley

No matter where you hang your hat and no matter where you take off your shoes.  You still have to meander into the bathroom at some point and have a good look at yourself in the mirror.  That person staring back at you is your reflection.  How do you look these days.  Have you let yourself go a bit in some area or another?Have you been too hard on loved ones?  Have you started self destructive activities, "I do too much _______________" fill in the blank.

These aren't the only things that are on that surface of self reflection.  We owe it to ourselves to take a deep breath and a hard look at who we are and what we have become.  If you take one of those hard looks, the deep ones that last for several minutes, and come up with something you want to change.  Then change it.  You have the ability to move mountains, or at least sell them.

It is absolutely important not to lose the gift of imagination.  It is equally important not to loose the ability to be thankful.  Stop in your tracts and the reading of this blog post and thank "Whomever you are thankful to", for the ability to see the words on this screen.  Be thankful for the small things in life then the big ones will be appreciated all that much more.

You and I walked into a store to purchase a particular item, let us say we are going to the store to buy a hair dryer.  I have not needed one of those for the past 17 years, but what the heck.  So we walk in and are looking in the hair dryer department.  We look over to the cash register and there are two employees just chewing the fat totally oblivious that we are standing there.  But we still look, those employees have to see us.  So we cough.  But nothing, they are still acting like we are invisible.  (probably wondering what I am doing in the hair dryer section, especially if I am shopping with Jeff Turner).  The manager walks through and stops and asks if we need help.  Why?  Because he has more riding on the line than those two chatty kathy's at the cash register.  They work hourly, not salary.  The manager gets judged on the amount of revenue the store is able to produce and maintain.  Which one are you?  How do you treat your Real Estate Business?

When you are out and about during your travels, you are probably not always thinking about Real Estate.  Some of us do and that is our focal point.  But might I suggest that you give yourself more ownership over every where you go.  You have a product to sell and it is Real Estate.  You carry that ability with you where ever you go.  You inventory is not transportable.  Therefore you need to develop ways to present it to the masses when you are on the move.

If you are one of those that are waiting for it to happen you will miss out and suffer more in this hard market that the ones that make it happen.  Every where you go you must make contacts with the people that you are around.  Give them a card or a pen with your website on it.  The card is easier to shun, but giving someone a $.28 cent writing implement that that can use is something that will be taken.

Cold calling is great, but I get more response when people can see me purchasing "hair dryers".

Santa Clarita Real Estate and Beyond Open Houses

Getting clients.  I get at least three calls a week from some concerned person that wants to make my real estate business better.  They explain to me that they can provide me exclusive leads and that they only have the one spot left in the Santa Clarita Valley.  They usually do not pronounce Santa Clarita correctly.  They also think it is central California.  They definitely have not done their home work which concerns me with the proposition of paying money to this company that is going to be feeding me leads.

I love open houses - all times - all days.  As long as you place your neck on the line and put a huge amount of open house signs out there for everyone to see, you are good as gold.  You have solved a couple of issues.

1. You have been able to market yourself - albeit temporary - to the driving and walking public.
2. You are also getting interested people and being able to meet then face to face.

I hit brick walls from time to time.  I view those that put up that huge front, as having been slighted in the past by others in our industry.  I look at them as damaged goods that just need some TLC.  Dr. Phil would be proud.  So I do very little to offend and let them look and answer any questions that they have.  I don't come across high pressure and would not like it if someone had that approach with me or my family.

One thing that I get right out there first and foremost is whether or not this person is working with an agent.  If they are, I give them a business card and package and write on the outside, met at an open house - for agent.  This is so if they don't have an agent, they then have something from me.  And if they were being truthful and do have an agent, they will give that agent something more that they had before so it might be a mental cue in the future when that agent has a prospective buyer.  Also this solidifies the fact I don't want someone else's blood, sweat and tears.  Buyers are a commodity.

Real Estate with Honor

Active Rain has been a true blessing for Paris and I and the Real Estate business we have built through those of you on Active Rain.  Not to mention our friends, family, sphere of influence, and the like, you all have been there in the good times and the bad.

Now on to the point, I love posting things on Active Rain, writing my "street driven" insights and current market conditions.  How to keep out of jail and how not to pick up the soap if you do land in prison.  However, this is not going to stay the same, nothing ever does.

So we did it, I have my own custom built blog, it was not expensive and it is hitting high on the search engines.  But this Active Rain and my own www.RealEstateWithHonor.com blog complement each other.

When I first started I had 6 blogs, typepad, wordpress, blogger, a whole slew of them. But a nice lady, L.S., she is number 1 in SCV on active rain, and a fantastic blogger, and a new member of our
